Deb’s June news.
I am off to Paarl at the end of this month to the immigration department of Home Affairs in order to find out if I am eligible to apply for permanent residency, it’s quite a big step for me, although I don’t hold out much hope that my four and a half years here on study and volunteers visas will actually be counted as a viable basis for application. The powers that be in South Africa have recently tightened up the rules for immigration applications and now even marrying a South African does not guarantee you the right to permanent residency – not that that was a viable option either!
I am still very happy living in Gordon’s Bay despite a few roof leaks when the rain is really hard,, Katherine is house sitting for a few weeks and when she returns I am going up to Gary and Nicky’s while they are away in the UK.
When Sarah Beatson returns at the beginning of July she is coming to stay for a week which will be lovely – some company in the house always goes down well.
I still don’t have anywhere permanent to live, Mike and Karen return to Gordon’s Bay in the middle of September and I would like to have a place of my own soon after that.
I have just booked my ticket to return to UK for Christmas – yippee!! I arrive on 10th December and stay for three weeks, until 3rd January. So be prepared for a ‘phone call from me during that time! I can’t wait to get my hands on my lovely nephews again and I am really glad to be able to be there for Jasper’s birthday on 13th December. I can’t quite believe that he will be 7 years old this year.
Jabu and Joyce’s visit was amazing for me, it was such and encouragement to have them around, my friend Sharon and I had a lovely morning with them before they left, Jabu prayed for both of us which was great. He said that he saw me as a ‘Warrior Woman’ and that I need to keep my sword up and ready for battle in the area of cross cultural work! He also said that God has given me ‘eagle eyes’ to see things which are hidden from other leaders and that I need to speak out what I see without being worried that I am usurping authority – watch out Francois!
My health has been very good so far this year, no problems with the old kidneys or back ache so thanks for praying for me so faithfully in this area.
I have just had some very bad news from my lovely friends Michelle and Adrian in Swansea; Adrian has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Please pray for them both and their two children Daniel and Rebekah, they are trusting God for a miracle and Adrian starts chemotherapy any day now.
Winter is well and truly here, Rachel and I have taken to going to the cinema on a Sunday afternoons as it is the warmest place we can find! So far we have seen Ladies in Lavender and Five Children and It – both of which were great so get them out on video if you have missed them at the movies. It only costs us R14 – about £1.20 and is definitely the best way to get warm on a wet winter afternoon.
Well, I think that is most of my news for this month. Please let me know what you are all up to
